About Event Tech AV
Our Leadership Team
Bruce Gilson
Owner & Managing Director
As a systematic thinker, Bruce is always analyzing how things work and how to make them better. He grew up in Texas with a unique exposure to country life and the big city. He keeps his momma proud with a kindness to all and a commitment to keeping his word.
Bruce was involved in tech theater during High School and started building Audio Visual systems very young for various churches. After being on church staff for years as a Technical Arts Director, he started working with companies doing corporate events, live concerts and Audio Visual Installs. With a deep desire for knowledge there is no problem he can’t figure out.
Bruce Gilson is the Owner, Managing Director, and Senior Sales Producer of Event Tech AV. When he isn’t helping our customers, he loves to spend time with his wife, 2 sons, and dogs. He loves to snowboard, hike, camp, and listen to music in the man cave.
Scott Yarbrough
Production Manager
Hailing from the great state of Michigan, Scott developed a level of toughness that can only be forged in the grueling winters of lake-effect snow. He was a competitive swimmer in college and later became swim coach helping kids achieve greatness in the pool.
Through friends and relationships, Scott stumbled into the Audio Visual Industry, but once he started learning, his natural curiosity drove him deeper and deeper into understanding the ins and outs of Audio Visual Systems. With a natural talent of learning and knowing how things work and how to build, he has become a leader for Audio Visual Installs.
Scott is our Production Manager and Trainer based out of Austin, TX. When he is not at work you can find him keeping his twins happy, being an active dad, or working on another DIY project around the house. If he has a spare minute outside of all those responsibilities, Scott can get passionate about hockey like any good kid from Michigan.
The Event Tech AV Difference
We Understand Your voice:
Event Tech AV works with the understanding that there is a need for a delicate blend of Art and Tech. When we approach AV design, we take the time to consider your event space, the technical needs of the building, and most importantly the end user, the audience.
When working with Event Tech AV in initial design process, our team will first try to understand you hopes for the project, and your end audience. Our design team will work to answer some core questions about who you are and what you would like your audience to experience before we jump into the technology that best fits your space. All the technology in the world could be the wrong technology if it doesn’t first fit into a framework that supports what you are trying to achieve.
We love Audio Visual Systems. To be honest it’s all we pay attention to when we go into an event space, a concert, a restaurant or corporate lobby. If we see a good use of architectural lighting we want to know the brand. If we are at our children’s Christmas pageant we are either running sound or we want to know what systems they are using. You could say it is in our DNA, but too often AV Integrators and systems designers allow their passion for technology to overshadow the true purpose the technology is there to serve. This is our goal: to find out who you want the technology to serve and then our team will design the best system for your purpose.
We Understand the Best Products:
Many Audio Visual Integrators build their business around brands. They build partnerships with manufacturers and even get kickbacks for having brand loyalty. Our Loyalty is to YOU! We certainly have brands that we know and trust but ultimately we are not trying to find the right customer to fit a product line or brand; we are trying to find the best brand to fit our customers.
With Event Tech AV, you the customer are not locked into a specific inventory, but instead are tapped into our wealth of product knowledge and vendor relationships. When you work with our team, we take the time to first understand your specific audio visual needs, event space and budget. We then research our vast database of products and choose the best brands and functionality to fit your specific situation. We have developed relationships with vendors of all the nations top brands and we use this relationship to negotiate great prices for your audio visual needs and price points.
We Understand Events:
Before starting Event Tech AV, our founder Bruce Gilson, spent over a decade designing and producing live events. He has extensive experience in large event production from the initial brainstorming session, to stage design and production of the event itself. Bruce’s live event experience ranges through the years from large church productions, broadway style shows, music concerts, corporate conferencing, international live orchestra movie tours, and he was the international broadcast technical producer of the Pope’s visit to El Paso, Tx.
During Bruce’s time working with live events, he also designed AV systems for portable churches, designed and installed AV for large church event spaces, auditoriums, and recording studios for multi-site churches. Bruce’s experience with events and then AV installations became the foundation of Event Tech AV, a foundation in which our team understands that an AV installation is not judged by the completion of the installation, but by the draw of the curtain, and the impression of the audience.
We Understand Churches:
Often the needs of a Church or house of worship are very different then what we experience in other event spaces. Churches not only have their ministry goals that they hope to leverage technology to achieve but they also budgets, board of directors, volunteers and other important ministry departments to consider in every decision making process. We understand the balance of ministry needs and technology needs. We understand that ease of use must take priority over complexity. We know that volunteers have big hearts and limited time. We know that churches lean on their AV integrators not only for the initial install but for a long lasting relationship of support.
Our Design Approach
Audio Visual Integrated System Design is a delicate blend of Art and Tech.
Many professionals in the AV industry identify with an technical mindset. How does the system work? How do the pieces fit together to make the whole? Can adjustments in angle, position, or material change the experienced outcome? What should the Graphical Interface portray to give the user an easy, clean experience?
Others identify with an arts mindset. How do we want people to feel when they walk in the space? What do we want people to focus on? What can we do to not distract from the purpose? When people leave what do we want them to be talking about? What will they say about this experience to their friends, in reviews, online social networks? What can we do to move the audience?
